RTP Grant – Letters of Support NEEDED…
Whitefish Legacy Partners and the City of Whitefish is submitting a grant proposal to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Recreation Trails Program requesting funding to continue building the Whitefish Trail (the Trail Runs Through It) under the Special Project Set-Aside Account. The requested funding for the Whitefish Trail will provide a major catalyst to the project and is a unique opportunity for the Whitefish Community.
Please write a letter of support for the Trail RTP grant. It is critically important that we show strong, broad based community support. This grant will go a long way toward helping us achieve our goals–it is an unprecedented opportunity which will likely not come again.
Your letter should emphasize the importance of the trail to our community and our economy. Let us know how you use it… and why you like it!
Highlights could include:
• Importance of permanent recreational access to health and well-being of the community, close to the community
• Identify how you use the trail – hike, bike, run, bird watching, equestrian use, biking club, trail clubs
• Economic benefit of trail system near Whitefish to recreation based economy
• Innovative partnerships with state and local governments and private landowners

The Whitefish Trail is a recreational loop trail encircling the greater Whitefish area that enhances access to public lands and other continuous trail networks. Construction Phases are summarized in the map below: Phases IV – VI (marked in red) will be completed under the 2011 RTP Grant if awarded.
